TUTORIAL

Getting started

to bottom of page next page

Before you start working through the main part of the tutorial and lessons, you should spend some time investigating the Bilko Help system. This provides useful information on the full range of Bilko menus, commands, dialogue boxes and functionality. The Bilko Help program is organised in a similar way to the help program of other Windows applications. If you are familiar with some of these, you should find it easy to work with Bilko Help.

Help content

The drop down Help menu figure (3K)) gives you three options: Contents, Index and Search. Start by selecting Contents. This opens the Help window with the content list on top (see figure (11K)). The left frame contains a number of topics (folders); the right frame displays information about the topic selected in the right frame.

Note: Pressing the F1 function key will also open the Help content.

The index

The Index is a list of topics covered by the Help system, in alphabetical order. You may scroll through the list or move to the list of words starting with a letter or group of letters by typing these (or a whole keyword) in the box at the top of the Help window ( figure (13K)).

Use the mouse or the arrow keys to select the keyword you want from the list and press return (or click the display button) to show the Help information you are looking for. figure (14K)).

Sometimes there are several topics for a chosen keyword. When this happens a new dialogue opens, asking you to choose between them (s0040c3) figure (10K)).

Search

The search facility figure (4K)). allows you to search for help using key words. You can choose to look for the word only in the title of the help page by checking the Search titles only box. This is often a good idea initially. If you cannot find any matches, try with the box unchecked; this will bring up all Help files that contain the word in the text. To find all files containing similar words, check the Match similar words check box.

The information in the Bilko Help screens give guidance on all aspects of how to use the image processing software. You should consul Help regularly whilst working through the introductory tutorial.
