Annual average sea surface temperature Observing the Ocean from Envisat

Envisat, the European Space Agency's most powerful and sophisticated Earth observation satellite was launched on March 1, 2002. This Bilko Teaching Module introduces some of the oceanographic applications of Envisat, and shows how the Bilko software may be used to analyse data from four of the Envisat sensors: ASAR, MERIS, AATSR and RA-2. Data from these sensors are used synergistically with other Earth observation data to provide information for studies of global climate, physical ocean processes and marine ecology.

The module has two main components:
Earth bullet

Introducing Bilko: A tutorial with 10 sections, each dealing with an aspect of the Bilko software and its use in image interpretation.

Earth bullet

The thematic lessons: Eight lessons using data from Envisat and other satellites to study current topics in oceanography.
