A comparison of unsupervised and supervised classification
Lesson Aims:
To learn how to carry out a supervised classification of land cover and assess its accuracy using ground-truthing survey data, then to learn how to carry out an unsupervised classification and compare the outputs of each method.
Objectives:
By the end of this lesson you should
understand the concepts underlying supervised and unsupervised classification and the differences between them,
know how to select training samples for a range of land cover types and enter these into a supervised classification training table,
know how to carry out an unsupervised classification and understand its limitations and uses.
