Observing the Ocean from Envisat

Envisat, the European Space Agency's most powerful and sophisticated Earth observation satellite was launched on March 1, 2002. This Bilko Teaching Module introduces some of the oceanographic applications of four of the Envisat sensors, ASAR, MERIS, AATSR and RA-2, and shows how the information they provide may be used synergistically with data from other Earth Observation satellites in studies of global climate, physical ocean processes and marine ecology.

The module has two main components:

Introducing Bilko: A tutorial with 10 sections, each dealing with an aspect of the Bilko software and its use in image interpretation.

The thematic lessons: Eight lessons using data from ESA's Envisat and other sources to study current topics in oceanography.
