Summary and conclusions

In this lesson you have learnt how to read data and metadata from a netCDF file and understand the concept of a hierarchical data format.

You then looked in detail at how a time series of Along Track Scanning Radiometer (ATSR-2) satellite sea surface temperature observations can be used to examine the main temporal and spatial features of the global oceans.

You will also have seen how to manipulate SST image time-series data sets using the Bilko software to construct and interpret ocean transects and Hovmöller plots of SST.
